East Anglia was one of the original Anglo-Saxon heptarchy kingdoms defined in the 9th century and later administered from Ely Cathedral (pictured). It is a diverse region comprising wetlands, coastal marshes and large areas devoted to arable farming. The region is largely flat although there are low, rolling hills in Norfolk & Suffolk. The Broads form a network of waterways stretching from Norwich to the coast.
Silicon Fen has been the hub of IT development over the last 20 years and is centred on Cambridge where the University celebrated its 800th anniversary in 2009.
The East Anglian Urologists' (EAU) meeting is held twice yearly with the main meeting, which includes the Patrick Doyle trainees' prize & The Michael Handley Ashken Memorial Lecture, taking place in December each year.
