The East Anglian Urologists (EAU) have met twice a year since 1985. In the summer, the meeting has always been arranged, in rotation, by one of the training units; in December each year, the meeting has traditionally been held in Cambridge.
At all meetings, the entire day is given over to clinical and administrative issues. The morning session is usually for Consultants only and constitutes the Regional Advisory Committee, chaired by Mr John Parry. The afternoon session is devoted to audit or presentations and, at the December meeting, is followed by a lecture from a guest speaker and dinner, both generously funded by a grant from Mr Michael Handley Ashken, past President of BAUS and former Consultant Urologist at Norfolk & Norwich Hospital.
It is anticipated that, in future, the structure will change to once-a-year meetings which will incorporate the existing meeting structure, together with the trainees' RITAs; these meetings will probably be held over a 2-day period.
We remain grateful to Karl Storz Endoscopy for their continuing sponsorship and to Richard Greenhalgh, in particular, for arranging the regional meetings as well as co-ordinating additional sponsors.
