The South Central Region was formed following the amalgamation of the Wessex & Oxford regions in 2009. It consists of Oxfordshire, Buckinghamshire, Berkshire, Hampshire and the Isle of Wight. It contains nine acute Trusts and serves approximately four million people.
There are many areas of outstanding beauty including the Chiltern hills, the city of Oxford, Windsor and its castle (pictured), the Solent and the famous seafaring centres of Southampton & Portsmouth.
The Channel Islands (Jersey, Guernsey, Alderney, Herm & Sark), although geographically closer to France, lie within easy reach by ferry or by air. Their unique combination of English and French culture makes the islands a popular tourist destination.
