Buckinghamshire Hospital NHS Trust
The Buckinghamshire Hospital NHS Trust was formed in 2003 by the amalgamation of the South Bucks NHS Trust (Wycombe General Hospital) and the Mid Bucks NHS Trust (Stoke Mandeville). The purpose-built urological investigative unit, secretariat, seminar room, clinical nurse specialist facility & 22 urology inpatient beds are at Wycombe. Day cases are performed at both hospitals. Outpatients are seen in both hospitals as well as in Marlow, the Chalfonts, Amersham, Thame & Buckingham.
The unit has four Consultants, two Specialist Registrars and four Clinical Nurse Specialists. It is a cancer unit and has advanced laparoscopic facilities. Approximately 70 radical prostatectomies, 20 cystectomies & 20 laparoscopic nephrectomies are performed each year. It prides itself on being a functional, friendly unit where staff & trainees are happy and work hard. Trainee log books always receive plaudits.
The surrounding area is one of outstanding natural beauty in which the Chiltern Hills, the Thames Valley and numerous market towns are major attractions.

Churchill Hospital, Oxford
Oxford urology is based at the Churchill Hospital in the beautiful university city of Oxford. The Churchill Hospital benefits from the recent opening of a £60 million clinical centre, offering state-of-the-art surgical and medical management across all disciplines. Activity is supplemented by outreach clinics and theatre sessions in Banbury and Stoke Mandeville Spinal Injuries Unit.
Oxford urology offers a district general hospital service as well as specialist tertiary referral for complex benign and malignant urological cases, The unit is staffed by nine Consultant Urologists, providing specialist services and training in bladder, prostate, renal and testicular cancer, reconstructive urology, stone management, spinal injuries and urogynaecology. The department benefits from a Da Vinci robot and an on-site Storz Modulith lithotripter.
The close links between Oxford University and the academic arm of the department offer an attractive alternative to those considering a career in academic urology, and ensure continuation of the national & international academic profile of the department.

Heatherwood & Wexham Park Hospital NHS Trust
The Heatherwood and Wexham Park Department of Urology came into existence in 1992 and, at present, is a four-Consultant unit with two Associate Specialists and two Senior Clinical Fellows.The two SpRs come from the Imperial College rotation and the Senior House Officers come from the Oxford Deanery. The department is based on two sites; complex and major surgery are carried out at Wexham Park Hospital Slough, whilst day surgery, outpatient clinics and minor surgery take place at Heatherwood Hospital Ascot.
Heatherwood and Wexham Park Hospital NHS Trust was the first district general hospital in the UK to acquire a da Vinci robot and is the only centre in the Thames Valley Cancer network to be part of the CRUK LOPERA trial for early prostate cancer.Currently, unit performs over 125 radical prostatectomies each year and Omer Karim is a leading proctor for robotic surgery in the UK. Wexham Park Hospital performs the highest number of robotic procedures in the Thames Valley Cancer Network; we also carry out robotic partial nephrectomy routinely and are expanding our range of robotic procedures.
In addition, the unit undertakes a large laparoscopic workload by Mr Laniado (who also performs robotic prostatectomies) and reconstructive urology by Mr Motiwala.We are a tertiary centre for andrology, providing service for penile prosthesis as well as sphincter placement, and for urethral reconstruction with complex genitourinaryreconstruction.The unit also carries out a large number of female uro-gynaecological procedures along with all types of prolapse repairs.We participate actively in cancer trials and regularly give presentations at European and International meetings. The unit is actively involved in teaching in the Third World as well as having had the honour of hosting the UK's first Master Class in robotic prostatectomy under the auspices of ERUS.
The unit is a very friendly place and one of the best, in terms of hands-on experience, for urology training in the South Central rotation.

Royal Berkshire Hospital, Reading
The Royal Berkshire Hospital is a 5-Consultant unit and was one of the first in the country to sub-specialise for optimisation of patient care. The department strives to maintain both the highest clinical governance standards and patient-focused care by incorporating the latest advances in the field.
Robotic surgery is a major interest, together with a large cancer workload. We are the only on-site "improving outcomes guidance in cancer" compliant hospital in Berkshire and the only regional centre for prostate brachytherapy, as well as being the supra-regional centre for penile cancer.
We have a specialist stone unit with the only regional, static lithotriptor and an incontinence unit which has pioneered the techniques of both local anaesthetic female urethral bulking injections and male slings for incontinence.

Royal Bournemouth Hospital
Royal Bournemouth Hospital is a five Consultant unit, with two Associate Specialists and two Wessex Specialist Registrars. We are the designated Cancer Centre for the local area and work jointly with Dorchester Hospital, including a video-linked MDT.
Part of the local oncology services, including brachytherapy, is based at nearby Poole Hospital.
All the consultants sub-specialise and, as a unit, we offer all major open and laparoscopic procedures for renal and pelvic cancer. We have a sub-specialist stone service, working closely with excellent interventional radiology.
We are closely linked with Southampton University School of Medicine and have an active undergraduate teaching programme.
Royal Hampshire County Hospital, Winchester
The Urology department in Winchester is a tight-knit, dynamic one. Serving a population of 260,000 people, it provides core urology and some specialist surgery to an urban and semi-rural population. With a long history of multidisciplinary working, it provides an excellent enviornment in which to work, with the added benefit of the beautiful catherdral city of Winchester (recently voted the best city in England to live in).
Two substantive Consultants head the service, subspecialising in andrology and laparoscopy, including adrenalectomy. There is a close working relationship with our cancer centre in Southampton where the pelvic surgery is performed by one of the Winchester Consultants.
Winchester is a favourite training destination on the Wessex rotation, giving the SpR sole access to 8 operating lists a week, allowing extensive exposure to core urology as well as to urethroplasty and upper tract laparoscopy.
Salisbury Hospital
The cathedral city of Salisbury has a well-funded urology department with a stock of up-to-date equipment.
We offer a full range of general urology, including basic paediatric urology, and, as a tertiary referral centre for spinal injuries, we are experienced in advanced continence surgery including artificial urinary sphincters and continent urinary diversion.
We have dedicated laparoscopic theatres and also form part of an excellent Fertility Unit.
St Mary's Hospital, Portsmouth
Portsmouth Hospitals NHS Trust covers a population of half a million people and is a tertiary referral centre for a wide area, covering theChannel Islands, the Isle of Wight and Chichester. The department comprises 6 Consultants and 3 Nurse Practitioners, with a major sub-specialty split between two stone surgeons and 3 uro-oncologists. The Trust also provides a regional service for urethral reconstruction with a visiting surgeon from Chichester.
All aspects of urology are catered for, including major laparoscopic surgery for bladder, prostate & renal cancers. We also offer prostate brachytherapy and a comprehensive (and high-throughput) stone service with flexible ureterorenoscopy, percutaneous nephrolithotomy and an on-site lithotripter.
Outpatients is a mix between on-site and peripheral, community-based services. The department sits in the middle of a highly-impressive PFI build and has access to all the latest equipment & facilities which a truly modern hospital should be proud to possess.

Southampton University Hospital
Southampton University Hospital is one of the three largest teaching hospitals in the country. The tertiary services of neurosurgery, cardiac surgery and paediatric surgery have been based in Southampton for 30 years and, with that, has developed the testicular oncological surgery and complex major renal tumour surgery in conjunction with the department of cardiac surgery. Southampton is developing a major trauma centre with a helipad.
There are five Consultant Urologists and an Associate Specialist with an interest in urodynamics. The consultants sub-specialise in uro-oncology and trainees have the choice of uro-oncology, endourology, reconstructive urology, stone management and a 6-month attachment to paediatric urology. There are two SpRs who are exposed to an extensive range of core urology, on the wards, in theatres, in outpatients and in the rest of the hospital.
The Clinical Department of the Medical School is on-site and there are strong links with undergraduate and postgraduate departments of the University Medical School.
