 | Stern-McCarthy resectoscope (circa 1932) Rack-and-pinion working mechanism (from the Addenbrooke's collection) |
 | Ogier-Ward resectoscope (circa 1938) This also has a Stern-McCarthy type mechanism. (also from the Addenbrooke's collection) Ogier Ward introduced a modification where the loop came towards the sheath and the telescope retracted at the same time. He also introduced a ramp which allowed the loop to be inserted more deeply into the prostate. Nesbit later modified the movement into the pistol-grip which we use today. |
