Research & Audit

Section audits and other research activity

1 March 2012 - A national audit for RPLND is launched today which will run for one year. The aim is to capture every RPLND performed for germ cell tumour in a one-year period. The protocol / dataset has been put together by Tim O’Brien & Matt Hayes in Southampton with input from a number of surgeons, oncologists and nurses and can be viewed here although all data must be entered on-line via the BAUS Data & Audit Project web-site.

16 November 2011 – Posters containing interim analyses of STUKA and 2011 data entered into the updated (11 April 2011) complex operations datasets were displayed at the Section meeting this week and can be downloaded here:

  1. Interim analysis of 2011 Prostatectomy data
  2. Interim analysis of 2011 Nephrectomy data
  3. Interim analysis of 2011 Cystectomy data
  4. Interim analysis of STUKA data (Snapshot of Transurethral resection in the United Kingdom) - this study is now closed and final analyses are underway

For information, the full protocol can be downloaded here and the proforma here (for in-house use only - NOT to be returned to BAUS)

Surveillance & Treatment of Renal Masses (STORM) – This prospective study on the surveillance and treatment of renal masses is ongoing and includes follow up at 6, 12 and 24 months. Download the full protocol here.

Members can collect data using their own in-house systems and bulk import data to the BAUS data and audit system. See the file import guidance updated March 2012 which includes the format and content allowed for each field of the revised web-based datasets.

Data collection for the Newly diagnosed tumours (minimum dataset) has now ceased.

Proformas

A number of members have requested that we make available paper proformas for in-house use only where it is impracticable to enter data directly online. Accordingly these are provided for you to complete so that the data can be input by a member of your staff at a later date.

Download the proformas by clicking here (compressed ZIP file). Updated 28.3.2012

Please do not send these forms to the BAUS office; they will simply be returned to you.

Data entry deadlines

The STUKA study is now closed.

Analyses of the 2010 Complex operations and Minimum Dataset (BCR) is complete and is available for download from the data and audit publications page.

All 2011 complex operation data should be returned by 1 March 2012

Copies of all the annual reports on the BAUS Cancer Registry and the complex operations data are available on the Data and Audit publications page.

If you wish to use any of the BAUS data for research purposes please complete and return this application form to Sarah Fowler.
