Future of BAUS ‡
*

BAUS was set up 60 years ago to establish urology as a distinct specialty separate from general surgery and to foster the development of urology by means of the annual meeting in the summer and by visits to urological departments around the country each autumn. The organisation of BAUS was very successful in achieving those aims – but now BAUS has a different job to do and it needs a different structure to address it.

BAUS exists to promote the highest standard in the practice of urology by our members for the ultimate benefit of patients and the challenge now is to maintain urology as a specialty against a variety of threats. Under the direction of the President (Professor Tony Mundy), the ‘Future of BAUS’ has been widely debated. At the AGM in June 2007, Members voted to endorse the proposals set out in the document ‘Future of BAUS 2007 – 06’ (below).

Updates will be sent to BAUS Members on progress in implementing these proposals in the President’s BAUS Briefing Note.

The briefing documents are available in Adobe pdf format to download.
