Professional Associations

| BAUS |
The British Association of Urological Surgeons, founded in 1945, is the professional organisation to which all urologists practising in the UK belong.
Trainees, once enrolled in a recognised training programme, can become Junior Members (and most do), proceeding to automatic Full Membership on achieving consultant status.
BAUS runs an annual scientific meeting, and other educational activities and advises on continuing medical education, the development of urological services and the evaluation of new technology through sub-committees and working parties. It has a system of regional specialty advisors throughout the country to provide a link between the membership and the President and Council.

RSM
Section of Urology |
The Royal Society of Medicine has a Urology Section which runs monthly meetings often directed specifically at trainees and promoting a friendly and convivial atmosphere for discussion and social activities.
Many trainees join the section and enjoy the meetings and the Society’s excellent facilities in London.

| International |
Urologists enjoy the privileges of world-wide contacts through other national societies, particularly in Europe, North America and Australasia.
There are many International Societies catering for special interest groups such as International Society of Urology, International Continence Society, World Endourology Congress.
Urological problems are universal, but in much of the developing world urological services barely exists. UROLINK (Urology Overseas Links) promotes urological care and education world-wide and opportunities abound for both trainees and consultants to contribute to urology in the developing world.
