Functional and Reconstructive Urology

This is the subspecialty of urology which covers investigation and treatment of benign conditions of the lower urinary tract, neuro-urology and reconstructive urology.
A signicant component of the subspecialty is uro-neurology. This includes the management of patients with neurological conditions that have an impact on the urinary tract and sexual function, as well as urinary tract reconstruction. Static conditions (such as spinal cord injury & cerebrovascular disease/stroke), as well as progressive disorders (such as multiple sclerosis & Parkinson’s disease) fall under the remit of the Section.
Similarly, the assessment and management of LUTS, bladder pain syndrome, urinary incontinence (male and female) and reconstructive urology (ureteric reconstruction/benign cystectomy/incontinent/continent diversion, mitrofanoff, Vesico-Vaginal Fistula repair) also come under the umbrella of the FRU section.
