The data collection period was from 1 January 2013 to 31 December 2015.

2,070 cases were submitted in total, of which 2,019 were from England; these 2,019 cases came from 38 consultants at 30 sites, and include 224 private patients from 12 consultants.

Hospital Episode Statistics (HES) for 2013, 2014 & 2015 indicate that there were 2,672 urethroplasties undertaken in England so we collected data on 75.6% of the urethroplasties undertaken in England from 2013 to 2015.

52% of the procedures were bulbar urethroplasties - see the table below for all sites:

  Bladder neck 17 0.8%
  Peno-bulbar urethra 92 4.4%

The overall median length of stay for bulbar urethroplasty was 1 days (range 0 – 20 days).

98% (1,995) of the entries recorded whether there had been an intra-operative complication, with a total recorded intra-operative complication rate of 2%.  90.5% (1,511) of the entries recorded whether there had been a post-operative complication, with a total post-operative complication rate (up to 30 days) of 9.5%.
