Summary & Timescale of the Data
The 3-year data collection period was from 1 January 2014 to 31 December 2016.
5,763 cases were submitted in total, of which 5,236 were from England (1,644 from 2014, 1,790 from 2015 and 1802 from 2016); these 5,763 cases came from 177 consultants at 87 sites, and include 118 private patients from 32 consultants.
Hospital Episode Statistics (HES) for 2014, 2015 & 2016 indicate that there were 5,857 radical cystectomies undertaken in England during this time period (2,028 in 2014, 1,952 in 2015 and 1,877 in 2016), so this audit collected data on 90% of the radical cystectomies undertaken in England during 2014 to 2016 (inclusive).
Of the total 5,763 cases reported 65.4% were open, 24.6% were robotic assisted, 6.4% laparoscopic, 2.0% Minimally invasive NOS and in 1.5% of cases the technique was not recorded.

Adverse events
The transfusion rate for open cases was 23.5%; the transfusion rate for minimally invasive cases was 5.52%.
The overall 30-day mortality rate was 1.2% (67 out of 5763); the overall 90-day mortality rate was 2.3% (131 out of 5763).
