Emergency Urology Surgical Skills Course

The Emergency Urology Surgical Skills course is a one day practical course where delegates will have hands on experience of a range of emergency urological surgical techniques using fresh frozen cadavers, in a simulated operating environment with experience faculty.

Course content:

  • Renal trauma: emergency exploration and nephrectomy
  • Approach to the ureter and anastomotic ureteric repair (end- to-end)
  • Ureteric re-implantation techniques: psoas hitch and Boari flap
  • Penile fracture and urethral injury repair
  • Testicular torsion, testicular rupture & orchidectomy

Additional Educational Elements

· Short lecture on the surgical steps for each skill including important anatomy

· Tuition from experienced faculty, and use of surgical instruments and materials

Learning Outcomes

· Understanding and technical skills of emergency urology surgery

· Anatomy relevant to emergency surgery

Target audience

 Priority ST5-7 and equivalent Portfolio pathway trainee and consultants

Applications will also be considered from ST3-4
