This fellowship is based at Nuffield Health Parkside Hospital in Wimbledon, London, with employment contract and education (and some training opportunities provided) through Chelsea Centre for Gender Surgery (CCGS) at Chelsea and Westminster Hospital.
The post is suitable for post-CCT candidates and senior Urology trainees (ST5 upwards). A supportive statement from the TPD would be required. The post is suitable for an OOPE/OOPT.
Nuffield Health Parkside Hospital is a private hospital which holds an NHS contract for feminising genital reconstructive surgery, treating patients from across the UK. The Department hosts 2 Consultant Surgeons, 2 Specialist Nurses, 1 Psychologist, 1 Peer Support Worker as well as an Administrative/Management Team. There are ample opportunities to be involved in operating lists, outpatient clinics, MDT, educational events, research and leadership. Opportunities can be provided at CCGS at the Fellow’s request.
- Involvement in 150 primary procedures for gender affirming vaginoplasty or vaginoplasty (penile skin invesion technique, penoscrotal inlay flaps)
- Involvement in 20 robotic assisted peritoneal vaginoplasties
- Involvement in 30 revision procedures treating complications of genital reconstruction in transgender women
- Involvement in 20 phalloplasties and associated revisisons(CCGS site)
- Involvement in 20 metoidioplasties and associated revisions (CCGS site)
- Involvement in 20 chest wall reconstructions (across both sites)
- All equipment and technology available to perform the above logbook cases
- The Davinci Robotic System is available on site at Nuffield Health Parkside Hospital
Within the department there are ample opportunities for audit and research. One full session per week is allocated to research/audit. There is an expectation to present at National/International meetings and to be involved in delivery of Deanery teaching of Urology trainees across the UK.
