05 December 2025

Recently NHS Fife welcomed some of the UK’s most promising urological surgeons to Queen Margaret Hospital in Dunfermline after being chosen to host the The British Association of Urological Surgeons annual Residential Operative Endourology Course.
This highly regarded programme brought together senior urology trainees from across the UK for intensive, hands-on training in advanced surgical techniques under the expert guidance of experienced urological surgeons.
Mary Suphi, BAUS CEO and Subu Subramonian, Chair of BAUS Section of Endourology, said: “We are delighted to have partnered with NHS Fife for this year’s Residential Operative Endourology Course.
“At BAUS, we are dedicated to supporting the next generation of urological surgeons through high-quality, hands-on training that reflects the evolving landscape of endourology. This year’s course once again demonstrated the value of collaborative learning environments, where experienced trainers and motivated trainees can come together to refine skills that ultimately enhance the care delivered to patients across the UK.
“We are grateful to Mr Feras Al Jaafari and Mr Ben Dreyers and the wider NHS Fife team for their exceptional leadership and hospitality, and for their continued commitment to advancing urological practice. Their contribution helps ensure the course remains a pivotal element of BAUS’s educational portfolio.
Consultant Urological Surgeon, Mr Feras Al Jaafari, led this year’s course on behalf of NHS Fife, saying: “We were incredibly proud to be chosen to host this prestigious course here in Fife.
“The course offered a fantastic opportunity for senior trainees to gain hands-on experience in the latest endourological techniques, with the support and guidance of our excellent clinical team here at Queen Margaret Hospital.
“The BAUS residential course is a unique course – and a genuine one-of-a-kind in the surgical specialties sphere – where experienced surgical faculty train outside of their normal environment and gain invaluable skills and experience. The course has been organised by BAUS since 2006; with many current UK Senior Urological Consultants having participated in previous residential courses.”
The BAUS Residential Operative Endourology Course has been running annually for 17 years, and has evolved significantly over that period in line with the development of new and innovative surgical techniques.
