BAUS strengthens Board with three new Trustee appointments

We delighted to announce today (Monday 15 June) the appointment of three new lay trustees to our Board: Ananda Guha, Gareth Collett and Ian Gargan.

Each brings a distinct and highly valuable perspective, further strengthening the breadth of expertise guiding the organisation’s strategic direction.

Ananda Guha brings senior leadership experience from across government, with deep expertise in policy, governance and stakeholder engagement, alongside a strong commitment to equity and inclusion.

Ananda Guha spent three decades working as a diplomat and civil servant. Since leaving Government he has worked as a university lecturer and commercial mediator. Ananda was diagnosed with prostate cancer in 2021. As a BAUS trustee, he wants to support the efforts of the urology profession to strengthen care quality and awareness.

Gareth Collett offers a distinctive blend of strategic leadership, international experience and lived patient insight, combined with a strong track record in governance, risk and high-stakes decision-making.

Gareth is a former British Army officer who rose to lead the UK’s bomb disposal profession, commanding some of the world’s most skilled teams against the evolving threat of explosive violence. Following service-related PTSD and bladder cancer, he became an academic researcher and charity advocate, championing the welfare of veterans and serving personnel.

Dr Ian Gargan contributes a rare combination of clinical background and executive leadership within complex health systems, bringing commercial, strategic and patient-centred insight at board level.

With his extensive background as a medical doctor and qualified psychologist, Dr Gargan brings a unique perspective to the table, combining medical expertise with a data-driven approach. This combination of skills has proven invaluable in leading organisations focused on improving patient outcomes in both public and private healthcare.Dr Gargan joined PHIN as Chief Executive in September 2022.

Commenting on the appointments, Mary Suphi, Chief Executive of BAUS, said: “We are delighted to welcome Ananda, Gareth and Ian to the BAUS Board. Each brings a unique combination of expertise, insight and lived experien ce that will strengthen our governance and support our ambition to deliver for members and patients alike.

“These appointments reflect our commitment to broadening perspectives at Board level and ensuring that BAUS continues to evolve in a way that is inclusive, forward-looking and responsive to the environment in which we operate.”

By welcoming diverse perspectives, the Association continues to strengthen its Board for the future. The addition of these lay trustees will bring broader insight, balanced challenge and a stronger connection to the wider environment in which BAUS operates.

In turn, this will support decision-making, more inclusive leadership and an even greater positive impact for patients and professionals alike.

Again, we wish to congratulate Amanda, Gareth and Ian on their appointments and look forward to working closely with them, and the rest of the Board, in supporting the urology community to deliver high-quality, equitable and sustainable care through education, innovation and advocacy.
