Results of a BAUS membership survey (first published Mar 2014)

Urological emergencies account for almost 25% of general surgical emergency work. Conditions encountered in the emergency situation include:

Torsion of the testis

  • Trauma
  • Torsion (pictured right)
  • Ureteric colic
  • UTI & pyelonephritis
  • Pyonephrosis
  • Haematuria & clot retention
  • Fournier's gangrene
  • Urinary retention (acute & chronic)
  • Epididymo-orchitis & scrotal abscess
  • Paraphimosis

Members of BAUS were surveyed in February 2014 on their provisions for emergency urological cover.
