This stamp was issued in France in 1943. It appears to have two prices, so it is likely to be a charity stamp; 1F50 for postage and 3F to go to charity.
Ambroise Paré waas born around 1510 and was a French barber surgeon.
He is considered one of the fathers of modern surgery due to his novel thoughts and pioneering techniques, particularly in battlefield surgery and the care of wounds.
He was surgeon to four French kings: Henry II, Francis II, Charles IX and Henry III.
In urology, he devised a very early instrument for treatment of urethral stricture and, possibly, for removal of stones.
He also described a device to help voiding following penile amputation.
