Arthur H Jacobs

Father of urology in Glasgow

Arthur Jacobs was born in Glasgow. He studied in Glasgow and took the triple Scottish qualification in 1920.

He was appointed to the staff of Glasgow Royal Infirmary and soon set up a specialist urological unit which was totally self-contained (it even had its own medical records department!). 

His urological interests included genito-urinary tuberculosis, ureterosigmoidostomy, urinary diversion and bladder augmentation.

Arthur Jacobs's autograph was sourced from the official photograph taken on his election to President of BAUS in 1957. The source remains in the archive at the BAUS Offices in the Royal College of Surgeons.
