Bulletin of the Historic Medical Equipment Society

A great resource on historical instruments

The Historical Medical Equipment Society was founded in 1996 at a meeting of collectors and museum curators in London.

Its stated aim is to promote education and research into the history of surgical instruments, equipment and objects relating to medicine, dentistry and pharmacy.

Meetings are held around the country at various museums, hospitals or medical schools.

HMES has published a Bulletin since 1997. This is full of fascinating articles, including many relating to the history of urology.

The actual words were published as an exhortation to John Keates (1795-1821) to give up writing poetry, and return to his first-choice career as a physician!
