Meeting Programme

This, the second Annual Scientific Meeting of BAUS, took the form of a discussion about "Treatment of benign enlargement of the prostate", chaired and presented by the inaugural BAUS President, Mr Ronald Ogier Ward.

Several other pre-eminent Consultant Urologists also contributed to the discussion with their own views and clinical experience (including Mr Eric Riches, Mr Walter Galbraith, Mr Bernard Ward, Mr JB MacAlpine, Mr Howard Hanley, Mr Francis Milward, Mr Hugh Donovan, Mr William Wardill, Mr Terence Millin, Mr Henry Hamilton Stewart & Mr Wilson Hey).

The general consensus of opinion, following a lengthy discussion, could be paraphrased as:

... whatever particular form of operation the urologist may choose to employ, the forthcoming results would be better if the urology unit was allowed to function autonomously and really control the work that was done ... ."
