Arthur H Jacobs

Father of urology in Glasgow

Arthur Jacobs was born in Glasgow. He studied in Glasgow and took the triple Scottish qualification in 1920.

He was appointed to the staff of Glasgow Royal Infirmary and soon set up a specialist urological unit which was totally self-contained (it even had its own medical records department!).

His urological interests included genito-urinary tuberculosis, ureterosigmoidostomy, urinary diversion and bladder augmentation.

He was elected President of BAUS in 1957 and was awarded the St Peter's Medal in 1965.

His autograph was sourced from 1957. For more detailed biographical information, go to Arthur Jacobs's entry in the Famous Urologists' Room.
