BAUS 1964 Sheffield

The 1964 BAUS Annual Scientific Meeting took place from 17 to 19 September 1964 at the Chemistry Building, University of Sheffield (pictured right), Western Bank, Sheffield.

Other information

As a preliminary to the meeting, on Wednesday 16 September, a small party of members and their guests visited the works of the English Steel Corporation Ltd. This was followed, in the evening, by a reception in Sheffield Town Hall (pictured below right in 1965) by kind invitation of the Lord Mayor.

On the evening of 17 September, following the AGM and short papers, a reception was hosted by the President and Council in The Students' Union, followed by the Annual Dinner, attended by 224 members and their guests. During the dinner, the St Peter's Medal was presented to Sir Eric Riches.

On 18 September, a discussion was held on "Infections of the urinary tract (excluding tuberculosis)", followed in the evening by an excursion to beautiful Chatsworth House, Bakewell, Derbyshire and dinner at the Rutland Arms Hotel.
