Abdul Mabud Chowdhury

1967 - 2020

Obituary by Ms Jhumur Pati, Consultant Urological Surgeon

It is with great sadness that BAUS informs you of the death of Mr Abdul Mabud Chowdhury, Consultant Urological Surgeon, Homerton University Hospital, on 8 April 2020, due to COVID-19. We are grateful to his colleague, Miss Jhumur Pati, for the following summary of his achievements.

Abdul graduated from Chittagong Medical College Bangladesh in 1992, trained in surgery and worked in Zimbabwe between 1998 & 2001.

"Moving to England in 2001, he worked in the NHS, moving through the ranks within urological surgery. His main passion and achievement, however, was building the charitable BKN Memorial Hospital & Research Centre in Bangladesh in 2010, in memory of his father-in-law Basher, his mother-in-law Kohinoor and his sister-in-law Nasim who tragically died in a car accident on the Chittagong highway. The hospital provides free clinics, diagnostics and medical care to the local rural community.

"Abdul will always be remembered for his generous spirit, uncompromising integrity and his dedication to his patients and family. He leaves behind a loving wife Rehana, son Intesar and daughter Wareesha. "

I am sure you would wish to join me in conveying our gratitude for all that he has done for his patients and the specialty, and in sending our sincerest condolences to his family, friends and colleagues at this difficult time.

Duncan Summerton,  President of BAUS
