BAUS 2001 Dublin

The 2001 BAUS Annual Scientific Meeting took place from 25 to 28 June 2001 at the Royal Dublin Society (pictured upper right), Anglesea Road, Ballsbridge, Dublin, home of the Irish Philanthropic Society

President's Welcome

BAUS President, Mr John Fitzpatrick, offered the following welcome to members and guests attending the 2001 meeting:

... On behalf of the Council of the British Association of Urological Surgeons it is my pleasure to invite you to our Annual Scientific Meeting to be held at the Royal Dublin Society from 25 to 28 June 2001.

There have been so many new developments in virtually every topic in urology in recent years that it is sometimes difficult to keep up to date. The Scientific Programme this year reflects these innovations. If you have a specific interest you will find it covered here with many papers of the highest standard being presented. If you wish to get a general overview, you will also be able to do this with the multiplicity of topics and, in particular, the outstanding plenary sessions. The Office of Education has developed an excellent programme of Teaching Courses in addition to didactic sessions on Monday and Friday.

May I take this opportunity of thanking our colleagues in the pharmaceutical and equipment industries for having supported this meeting so generously. It is a very expensive undertaking to put on a meeting nowadays and it could not be done without this support. I would therefore encourage you to visit the Scientific Exhibition.

I know that you will find Dublin to be a very exciting city and the Social Programme will give you a taste of this. However, I hope that you will have every opportunity to visit the theatres, restaurants, and historical sites in the city.

I hope that you have a most enjoyable time in Dublin and I look forward to seeing you there ..."
