BAUS 2002 Glasgow

The 2002 BAUS Annual Scientific Meeting took place from 24 to 28 June 2002 at the Scottish Exhibition and Conference Centre (SECC, pictured), Exhibition Way, Glasgow.

President's Welcome

BAUS President, Mr John Fitzpatrick, offered the following welcome to members and guests attending the 2013 meeting:

... On behalf of the Council of the British Association of Urological Surgeons it is my pleasure to invite you to our Annual Scientific Meeting to be held at the Scottish Exhibition & Conference Centre from 24 to 28 June 2002.

We have arranged a most interesting scientific programme for you, which will cover all aspects of urology and address current issues in a critical and comprehensive way. I would like to thank our abstract reviewers, the programme committee and, in particular, the BAUS Honorary Secretary, Phil Matthews, for the considerable amount of work involved.

Plenary sessions will feature opinion leaders from the UK and we have also invited a number of overseas guests who will bring their own distinctive views to the meeting. Of course a large proportion of the meeting will consist of new work presented at podium and poster sessions giving bright young urologists and scientists the opportunity to impress.

The Office of Education, under its new Director, Ian Eardley (pictured right), has produced an excellent programme of Teaching Courses. These will include six newly introduced Skills Courses organized by Adrian Joyce.

May I take this opportunity of thanking our colleagues in the pharmaceutical and equipment industries for having supported this meeting so generously. It is a very expensive undertaking to put on a meeting nowadays and it could not be done without this support. I would therefore encourage you to visit the Scientific Exhibition.

Glasgow is a wonderful city full of great restaurants and a large number of comfortable and reasonably priced hotels. It is a major cultural capital with fine art galleries and museums, which will be a delight to visit. It is very close to beautiful countryside and is surrounded by championship golf courses. Glasgow has always been one of my favourite cities and I look forward to welcoming you there. ..."
