Clutton's Sounds

Still used in urological surgery

These sounds were designed by Henry Hugh Clutton (1850 - 1909).

The sounds are graduated, being narrower at the tip and then increasing in diameter towards the handle (below middle). The handles of the sounds display the size change along the length of the dilator (below right), using the French scale (FG) e.g. 16/20 FG.
