Riches Cystoscope

The first standardised cystoscope

The Riches' cystoscope was described by Sir Eric Riches in 1955 (see his paper in The Library). It was an attempt to standardise cystoscopes in Great Britain, particularly the fittings and instruments used with them.

The Riches cystoscope had a universal fitting which would accommodate Riches biopsy forceps, a lithotrite or a Kidd's diathermy ball.  The instruments were supplied in a sterilisable box with all the fittings included and a set of bottled spares (seen in the top images).
