BAUS 2014 Liverpool

The 2014 BAUS Annual Scientific Meeting took place from 23 to 26 June 2014 at the BT Convention Centre (pictured right), Kings Dock, Liverpool Waterfront.

President's Welcome

BAUS President, Mr Adrian Joyce, offered the following welcome to members and guests attending the 2014 meeting:

... On behalf of the Council of The British Association of Urological Surgeons, I am delighted to welcome you to our Annual Scientific Meeting at the BT Convention Centre in Liverpool.

To this year’s programme we welcome leaders in urology from the UK and around the world whose contribution makes this meeting so valued and BAUS, through Frank Keeley – our Honorary Secretary, has made a positive effort to include many leading overseas urologists into the programme.

We are again delighted that the Sections of Academic Urology, Andrology & Genito-Urethral Surgery and Female,Neurological & Urodynamic Urology will be holding their respective Annual Meetings on Monday 23 June. Building on the success of previous years, the Sections have had a major influence on the Programme Committee in developing the scientific sessions for the rest of the week. The aim is to give you, the delegates a comprehensive overview of the latest in urology.

This year has a strong programme with an international flavour; and the final day reflects an international flavour together with ‘Updates and Breaking News’ to give a fitting end to the meeting, which again will finish at 14.00hr.

Shamim Khan, our new Director of the BAUS Office of Education, has produced an excellent programme of Teaching and Skills Courses with the introduction of many new courses this year. Places are limited and do go quickly, please check at the registration desk for availablilty.

The Welcome Reception will be held in the Exhibition Hall at 18.00hr on Monday 23 June and will provide an additional opportunity to visit the exhibition stands. The main social event on Wednesday 25 June will be held at the Pan Am Bar (pictured right) in the Albert Dock. We will have exclusive use of the venue where delegates can enjoy drinks and canapés in relaxed surroundings.

I would also particularly like to express our appreciation for the very generous support the Association receives for the Annual Meeting (as well as our activities more widely) from the pharmaceutical and equipment industries. I hope you will show your appreciation by visiting their stands in the Exhibition Hall during the week. We have, once again, scheduled times in to the programme to allow you to spend time visiting the exhibition.

In closing I would like to offer my special thanks to the Organising Committee, the BAUS Section Chairmen, Secretaries and Committee Members, our Abstract Reviewers and, in particular, Frank Keeley, the staff in the BAUS Office (especially Hannah Doyle, Events Manager and Freya Gosling, Events Assistant) and Bob Tolley (Exhibition Manager) for the enormous amount of work that has gone into planning this meeting.

I look forward to seeing you at the meeting ..."

President's Dinner

At each BAUS Annual Scientific Meeting, the President & Council of BAUS invite selected delegates (and their partners) to join them for a drinks reception and dinner to celebrate their contribution to urology.

The President's Dinner during the BAUS 2014 Annual Scientific Meeting in Liverpool, took place at The Hope Street Hotel, 40 Hope Street, Liverpool. The evening included a presentation to the outgoing President of BAUS, Mr Adrian Joyce, to celebrate his 10-year involvement in the administration of BAUS.

The hotel, which faces the famous Liverpool Philharmonic Hall,  provides a spectacular rooftop panorama of the city and the River Mersey, together with views of both LIverpool cathedrals.

Five-a-Side Football

The BAUS five-a-side football tournament took place at the Lucozade Power Leagues' facility in Liverpool.

The main highlight of the tournament was witnessing the BAUS Office staff, clad in inflatable, blue, sumo wrestler suits, forming a wall to block the goal during the SURG v Consultant All-Stars exhibition match.

A great evening was had by all and the proceeds from entry fees were donated to a urological charity.
