1913 International Medical Congress Medal

Held in London

The 17th International Medical Congress was held in London between 6 & 12 August 1913. The President of the Urology Section was Edwin Hurry Fenwick of The London Hospital, who championed the early use of the cystoscope in Great Britain. The Vice President was David Newman of Glasgow who invented the first cystoscope to be lit by an electric light bulb.

The medal was given to all delegates at the Congress. The obverse shows Joseph, Lord Lister, who had died in February 1912.

The International Medical Congress series started in Paris in 1867 and continued until 1913 in London.
