Medals of Sir Eric Riches

Awarded the Military Cross for bravery

Sir Eric Riches was a founder member of BAUS, and served as President from 1951 to 1953.

During the First World War he deferred his place at medical school and joined the army. In 1917 he won the Miltary Cross (MC) for bravery. He subsequently had a distinguished career in surgery and urology and was knighted in 1958.

These are his miniature medals (worn only with evening dress); they were brought to the BAUS office by his daughter, who kindly allowed us to photgraph them for the Virtual Museum.
