Suprapubic drainage device
Below are examples of suprapubic drainage devices known as Hamilton Irving boxes. Suprapubic drainage was usual after open prostatectomy and, later, after TURP. This type of collecting apparatus was used by Sir Peter Freyer following his famous prostatectomies and he mentions it in his book.
The device was strapped around the man's waist and the urine was collected in bottles attached to his legs.
