Thompson Blind Lithotrite

Used by "feel" alone

This "blind" lithotrite was designed by Sir Henry Thompson.

In this context, "blind" means that the instrument does not have a telescope and that it is used primarily by "feel" alone.

This model is American, made by the George Tiemann Instrument Company.

The triangular button on top of the shaft allows the jaws to be locked on to the stone, once it has been grasped, before the crushing is instituted by rotating the wheel (to the right of the picture).
